Project Details
We hope this request finds you in good health and high spirits. we writing to you on behalf of the residents of Iju Ishaga, a community situated in Lagos, Lagos State, to draw your attention to the urgent need for a hand pump borehole in the area due to the pressing issue of water scarcity. This proposal outlines the current water crisis, the potential solution, and the anticipated benefits of implementing the suggested project.

Problem Statement
Iju Ishaga is home to approximately over 1000 individuals, and the primary concern that plagues the community is the lack of access to clean and safe drinking water. The existing water sources, such as wells and shallow boreholes, have become unreliable, especially during the dry seasons. The residents, predominantly comprising families, women, and children, are forced to travel long distances to fetch water, often from contaminated sources, risking their health and safety.
Proposed Solution
To address the water scarcity issue in Iju Ishaga, we propose the installation of four hand pump boreholes. This solution offers a sustainable and cost-effective means of providing the community with a reliable source of clean water. The hand pump borehole will tap into the underground water resources, ensuring a consistent supply of safe drinking water throughout the year. The project is proposed to take off by 1st week of May 2024 and run for just a month and two weeks, meaning by the third week of June 2024 the project would have finished.
Project Scope and Implementation
Site Selection: A thorough hydrogeological survey will be conducted to identify the most suitable location for the hand pump borehole, considering factors such as water availability, accessibility, and proximity to the community. The cost analysis is given below:
A site cost =$500.40,
Four sites cost =$2,001.6
Logistics = $500
Borehole Drilling and Construction: Professional drilling contractors will be engaged to drill the borehole to the required depth, install the casing, and construct the concrete pad and apron around the pump area. To drill manually a borehole without heavy-duty equipment will cost $3,000 per a borehole, while Logistic will cost $800
The four will cost $12,000
Logistic cost for four will be $3,200
Hand Pump Installation: A high-quality hand pump will be installed, ensuring ease of use and durability. The pump will be equipped with necessary safety measures and maintenance instructions.

A Hand Pump Installation= $2,000
Logistic Cost=$500 per installation
Four Hand Pumps Installation=$8,000
Logistic Cost for four= $2,000
Water Quality Testing: Comprehensive water quality testing will be conducted to ensure that the pumped water meets the national standards for drinking water quality.
Hiring of Professionals= $500
Testing and Logistic= $2,000
Training and Community Engagement: The project will include training sessions to educate the community members on proper usage and maintenance of the hand pump borehole. Furthermore, a water committee comprising residents will be established to oversee the management and sustainability of the water supply.
Community Seminar Workshop= $5,000
Total Cost= $ 35,201.4 (N43,859,184.33)

Anticipated Benefits
The installation of a hand pump borehole in Iju Ishaga will yield numerous benefits, including:
Access to Clean Water: The project will provide the community with a reliable and safe source of drinking water, eliminating the need to fetch water from distant and contaminated sources.
Improved Health and Sanitation: Clean water availability will significantly reduce waterborne diseases, improving the overall health and well-being of the community members. It will also promote better sanitation practices.
Time and Effort Savings: With a hand pump borehole in close proximity, the community members, especially women and children, will save valuable time and effort spent on fetching water. This will enable them to engage in more productive activities, such as education and income-generating pursuits.
Community Empowerment: Involving the community in the project’s implementation and management will foster a sense of ownership and empowerment, leading to long-term sustainability.
Project Budget
We have estimated the total cost of the project, including site assessment, drilling, construction, pump installation, water quality testing, training, and community engagement, to be $ 35,201.4 (N43,859,184.33). We kindly request your consideration and support in securing the necessary funding for this endeavour.
Conclusion
The water scarcity issue in Iju Ishaga demands immediate attention, and the installation of a hand pump borehole represents an effective and sustainable solution. Providing the community with access to clean water, we can significantly improve their quality of life, health, and overall well-being.
We kindly request that you review this proposal with utmost consideration and support our cause. We are available to discuss any further details and provide additional information as needed. Together, let us make a positive impact on the lives of the people in Iju Ishaga.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
